TV fans were forced this year to say goodbye to shows like “Breaking Bad,” “Dexter” and “Nikita.” While it may have been hard to bid farewell to your favorite TV characters, the good thing about the quickly approaching New Year is that you can get sucked into new shows. “The Assets” (ABC) – Premiering Thursday, Jan. 2 at 10 p.m. EST

“The Assets,” an eight-part miniseries based on real-life Cold War events, takes viewers to 1985 when CIA counterintelligence officer Sandy Grimes is trying to find a mole toward the end of the war. That mole turns out to be Aldrich Ames, considered “the most notorious traitor in U.S. history.”

“Intelligence” (CBS) – Premiering Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 9 p.m. EST

“Lost” actor Josh Holloway returns to the small screen as Gabriel, a high-tech intelligence operative “enhanced with a super-computer microchip in his brain.” So what does that mean for Gabriel? He’s the first human to have “complete access to Internet, WiFi, telephone and satellite data.”

“Killer Women” (ABC) – Premiering Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 10 p.m. EST

Viewers will meet Molly Parker, the only female ranger on the elite squad of Texas Rangers. Besides diving head first into danger, Molly is in the middle of getting a divorce from her “smarmy husband,” and having an affair with a sexy DEA agent.

“Chicago P.D.” (NBC) – Premiering Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 10 p.m. EST

Following the hit drama “Chicago Fire” -- NBC’s new series, “Chicago P.D.” -- is about the men and women of the Chicago Police Department’s District 21 who “put it all on the line to serve and protect their community.”

“Enlisted” (Fox) – Premiering Friday, Jan. 10 at 9:30 p.m. EST

Don’t let the Friday time slot scare you. The International Business Times had the opportunity to watch the pilot episode of “Enlisted,” and it’s absolutely hilarious. The new comedy is about Staff Sergeant Pete Hill, who was destined for a huge military career until a mistake transferred him to a small Florida Army post where his two brothers (“and a group of misfits”) are stationed.

“Helix” (Syfy) – Premiering Friday, Jan. 10 at 10 p.m. EST

Syfy’s new thriller is about a team of scientists at the Centers for Disease Control who are investigating a “possible disease outbreak” at a high-tech research facility in the Arctic. But their investigation takes a frightening turn when they find themselves “pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind’s salvation … or total annihilation.”

“True Detective” (HBO) – Premiering Sunday, Jan. 12 at 9 p.m. EST

Louisiana State Police Detectives Martin Hart and Rust Cohle are brought back together in 2012 to investigate a homicide case that they worked on in 1995. But the case reopens old wounds as they’re pulled back into the 1995 “bizarre ritualistic murder” that was believed solved.

“Bitten” (Syfy) – Premiering Monday, Jan. 13 at 10 p.m. EST

Syfy’s new supernatural thriller follows Elena Michaels, the “lone werewolf in existence.” Abandoning her pack, Elena tries to live a new life but finds herself drawn back into the pack when bodies start turning up.

“Looking” (HBO) – Premiering Sunday, Jan. 19 at 10:30 p.m. EST

Three friends living in San Francisco ponder life and love as they reach different points in their life. Patrick, 29, is diving back into the dating game after his ex gets engaged; Agustín, 31, is questioning monogamy with his boyfriend; Dom, 39, is “facing middle age with romantic and professional dreams still unfulfilled.”

Fox is introducing its new legal drama about Keegan Deane, a “brilliant and frustratingly charming criminal defense attorney.”

Set in 1715, viewers will meet Captain Flint, the most feared pirate on the seas at that time. Despite his opponents, it’s up to Flint to keep control of lawless territory New Providence Island.

“Resurrection” (ABC) – Premiering Sunday, March 9 at 9 p.m. EST

An 8-year-old American boy named Jacob wakes up in a rice paddy in a rural Chinese providence and claims he’s from Arcadia, Missouri. An immigration agent returns Jacob to the small Missouri town, where he is shocked to discover that Jacob died more than 30 years ago. "Jacob knows secrets about his own death that no one else knows,” according to the story's synposis, and those closest to the family try to “unravel this impossible mystery.”
