KEY POINTS

  • Iron ore can be found in hillsides and mountainous regions in “New World”
  • Iron veins appear as black boulders that dot the landscape
  • Iron is used for the vast majority of the early game crafting tree

Iron ore is one of the most important basic crafting materials in “New World’s” early game. It’s used for crafting weapons, armor and ammunition, which are all extremely useful during the first couple of dozen levels in the game.

This resource is also used for crafting Steel, which is the next tier in the crafting progression tree. Given iron’s importance in leveling up smithing-related trade skills, “New World” players will naturally want as much of this resource as possible.

However, iron can be somewhat difficult to mine in the open world due to high demand and the relative obscurity of the resource itself that tends to confuse new players.

Where To Find Iron Veins

Iron veins appear as clusters of black boulders of varying sizes found scattered across the mountainous regions of Aeternum. Small veins of iron can usually be found nestled along the many crags and cliffs that players can come across, but some can also be spotted resting on the hills of some regions.

Players can track what resource spawns in which area by checking their map screens. To the left of the screen is a resource tracker tab that shows what resource appears in each color-coded map region. Metals like iron and silver often spawn in the bright yellowish-brown regions that represent mountains, hillsides and highlands.

Iron Ore Farming Spots

There are some popular routes that can net players thousands of ore per hour, but these spots are typically saturated with other miners who are looking to take advantage of the high iron ore spawns. The mountainous area between the Watchtower and the mine in Monarch’s Bluff has plenty of iron nodes and just as many players.

Eldergate, the mountain area southwest of Windsward, is a good place to start collecting iron. Several large nodes spawn around the small lake by the base of the mountain and a few more nodes can be spotted just up the hill near the road.

The hills surrounding Everfall also have plenty of iron nodes scattered about. From the town, head toward the east gate and explore the yellowish-brown patches of land of Faith’s Bounty. Players can also head toward Bearclaw Pass for even more iron and plenty of rawhide.
