A five-month-old baby girl in the Philippines was returned to her parents Thursday, a day after she was allegedly kidnapped by her babysitter.

According to local reports, the baby’s mother, Princess Jean Perrin, spotted the babysitter on Facebook and hired her last Thursday after checking her ID. On Wednesday, Perrin woke up to find that the woman and her baby were missing. She immediately alerted the police who began looking for them. Perrin told the police that she and her boyfriend were having a nap when the babysitter abducted the girl.

Police checked the CCTV footage which showed the babysitter, identified as Kristine Joy Salik, walking down the street with the baby. Perrin shared the footage online and sought public help in finding the babysitter. When the footage went viral, Salik appeared on a local radio-television program and returned the baby to her parents.

During the program, the babysitter said she never intended to abduct the child and that she had only taken the baby along with her to a local shopping center. She added that she went into hiding after seeing media reports. The baby’s parents, however, rejected the claims and said they filed a police complaint.

Meanwhile, police said they were investigating the incident and they believe the babysitter was using a fake name. The police added that they believed the ID the babysitter showed to Perrin was also fake.
