A heavyweight sensation hyped as the “Next Mike Tyson” is looking to catapult his way up to a world championship.

United Kingdom’s Daniel Dubois has sent shockwaves to the heavyweight division after knocking out Joe Cusumano in their undercard bout of the Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley event on Sunday.

Dubois floored Cusumano three times in the first round that eventually led to a first-round TKO victory.

The Brit is now enjoying a two-fight winning streak but insisted that he has eyes on the prize.

Speaking to the media after the fight, Dubois stressed that time is of the essence and he wants to fight for “a world title” as soon as possible.

“You don’t get paid for overtime,” Dubois explained. “I had a great performance and had the best training camp ever. I want to fight for a world title. I want to fight the best. It’s going to come soon. Whoever’s next. I want to fight for a world title.”

The 23-year-old’s then-undefeated record was ended by his compatriot Joe Joyce in November 2020.

Backing his fighter’s plan to make a statement comeback, Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren has high hopes that the WBA will greenlight a mandatory bout against Trevor Bryan.

"I hope [the WBA] they do,” Warren said of Dubois vs. Bryan in July. “That’s what we agreed would happen before the fight. We’ll push that and see if we can get it over the line.”

Dubois, on the other hand, insisted that he already got his rhythm back, having done dealing with the “demons” in his head.

"I’m coming back on my feet, and I’m ready to take over," Dubois told IFL TV. "There were a bit of demons in my head, but once I got in the flow of things, I just let go, and there you go.”

“Whoever next, whoever they bring up for me, I’m ready for them."

What’s even more interesting, some are already seeing shades of a young Tyson in Dubois, something the heavyweight boxing prodigy has acknowledged with pleasure.

In fact, Dubois even admitted that he has been mimicking “Iron Mike” at a very young age.

“I know it can happen that people fear me like they feared Tyson,” Dubois said in 2019. “It’s up to me to make sure it happens.”

“As a young kid I tried to emulate some of the things he [Tyson] did in and out of the ring,” he continued. “I feel that is part of my character and part of my fighting style. See if that worked, if it didn’t then I would go back to being Roy Jones or something like that.”
