The Minnesota Vikings have pulled off a massive shocker this offseason when they announced the signing of coveted pass-rushing free agent Za’Darius Smith.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Smith had signed a three-year deal worth $47 million to lock up the outside linebacker.

Before he officially signed with the Vikings, Smith was originally supposed to head back to the team that drafted him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft, the Baltimore Ravens.

Smith was released by the Green Bay Packers following a three-year stint as they could not afford to pay him enough money after signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers to his own massive extension.

However, negotiations fell through between Smith and the Ravens as the former’s issues with the contract details were well beyond what the two sides had agreed upon the day before.

It was then reported that Smith was going to meet with the Vikings and many had thought that a deal would not materialize which would keep him on the free-agent list.

The Vikings immediately jumped on the opportunity to keep him there and the 29-year-old then signed a contract.

During the introductory press conference with local Minnesota media, Smith outlined his plans for the team.

“Our first thing is on winning the [NFC] North [division]. I’m going to come in and do everything I need to do to help this team improve and be a better football team,” Smith proudly declared.

The organization immediately featured their newest acquisition via their social media and Smith’s demeanor perfectly showcased how happy he was to be a member of the Vikings.

The two-time Pro Bowler will link up with ferocious defensive end Danielle Hunter to give opposing offensive coordinators fits when they line up against the Vikings.

Smith also acknowledged his upcoming defensive partnership with Hunter, stating that their familiarity with one another during their college careers and eventually playing in the 2019 Pro Bowl together will help them anchor the Vikings defense that was ranked 24th last season.

With both the Packers and the Vikings being part of the NFC North, seeing them face each other on the field this coming season will have fans on both sides salivating for a victory.
