Actor and television host Nick Cannon shared the news on Tuesday that his 5-month-old son Zen died from a cancerous brain tumor over the weekend.

Zen was Cannon’s seventh child, who he welcomed with model Alyssa Scott earlier this year.

“Over the weekend, I lost my youngest son to a condition called hydrocephalus that is pretty much a malignant, midline brain tumor — brain cancer," Cannon said on “The Nick Cannon Show.” He broke down in tears when explaining the situation and told his audience, "I didn't know how I was going to handle today, but I wanted to grieve with my family."

The Mayo Clinic describes hydrocephalus as a “buildup of fluid in the cavities (ventricles) deep within the brain. The excess fluid increases the size of the ventricles and puts pressure on the brain."

Cannon, 41, said that he always noticed a cough and that the size of his head was a little bigger, but didn’t think anything of it. He took his son to the doctor for a check-up and found out the symptoms were unusual.

“I always noticed he had a cough and so I wanted to check it out,” he said.

"He had this real interesting breathing, and by the time he was 2 months old I noticed ... he had this nice-sized head, too. I called it a Cannon head. We didn’t think anything about it. But I wanted to take him to the doctor for his sinus and breathing. We thought it would be routine," he added.

Cannon then found out that his son had a malignant tumor that was causing fluid to build up on Zen’s brain.

Zen had surgery to drain the fluid, but his symptoms started to get worse around Thanksgiving, Cannon explained.

“The process sped up. Ultimately, it was cancer in the brain. The tumor began to grow a lot faster,” Cannon said. "This weekend, I made an effort to spend the most quality time with Zen. We woke up on Sunday ... and went to the ocean with him.”
