KEY POINTS

  • Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant have been friends for 25 years already
  • The Hollywood stars are very comfortable working with each other
  • "The Undoing" is Kidman and Grant's first project together

Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant talked about their new series "The Undoing" and explained the factors behind their palpable on-screen chemistry.

Kidman and Grant sat for an interview with Entertainment Tonight where they talked about their new series and their friendship. It turned out that they have been friends for 25 years already and only worked together for the first time in their HBO drama miniseries.

When Kidman was asked about her stunning performance on the show after winning an Emmy for "Big Little Lies," she acknowledged her co-star’s presence as one of the factors that helped her nail her role.

"Because we've known each other since we were in our early 20s ... I feel very comfortable with him and part of what it took for this to work is that this couple has to be very sort of comfortable and happy," Kidman said before asking Grant, "Would you not agree, Hugh?"

"That was the aim," Grant responded.

"We had to sort of establish all that in one episode before the rug was pulled from under the feet of this adorable couple," he added.

Although they are very comfortable with each other, Grant suggested for them to not hug or kiss too much.

"Because after 10 years of marriage, people would never be doing that," Kidman said.

"I just didn’t think we should do it every single scene," Grant interjected.

The closeness of the two is apparent with their constant bantering. Grant shared that Kidman loves to gossip which he likes because he gets stuff out of her. But the actor clarified that Kidman loves to gossip about herself, which she did not deny.

"I do. I’ll answer questions about myself," Kidman conceded.

"The Undoing" follows Grace Fraser (Kidman) who is living the life she has always wanted. She is a successful therapist who is about to publish her new book devoted to her husband (Grant) and a young son, but chasms, a violent death, a missing husband and more lead to a chain of terrible revelations and a very public disaster along the way.

"The Undoing" will premiere Sunday, Oct. 25. at 9.p.m. EST on HBO.
