A district attorney in upstate New York has admitted he previously had a career as a porn star, after lying about it in response to allegations made while he was campaigning for re-election to his current office this year.

Mark D. Suben, who was been the district attorney in Cortland County near Syracuse since 2008, came clean during a press conference after an anonymous tipster posted a video of some of Suben’s moments on film, the Associated Press reported.

“Recently, materials have been circulated alleging that I was involved in the adult-film industry about 40 years ago in New York. Those allegations are true,” Suben said. “I was an actor in adult films for a short period in the early '70s. I was also an actor in other venues, including off-Broadway, soap operas, and commercial advertisements.”

Suben was forced to address the allegations after an anonymous tipster uploaded a video to YouTube with images of the face of Suben next to the face of former adult-film actor “Gus Thomas.” The IMDB page for Thomas includes includes such titles as “Deep Throat Part II,” “Doctor’s Teenage Dilemma,” and “Steam Heat.”

Although Suben refused to answer any questions during the press conference, several voters cried foul, not because of his former profession but because of his lying.

The district attorney admitted he used “bad judgment” in lying to voters when directly asked about the resemblance during the campaign.

“A few weeks ago, when asked, I denied this to members of the press,” Suben said. “I regret that, and I apologize for it. I was shocked and embarrassed to be confronted with this so many years later. I was embarrassed for my family and friends who have stood by me. I also denied my actions to my family, my friends, and my staff.”

Suben also avoided questions about whether the revelation would prompt a resignation, something AP reported he left to his representative, Aimee Milks.

“This was nearly 40 years ago. It was not illegal. Mark Suben was not yet married. He was not practicing law, and he was not a law student,” Milks said. “It has nothing to do with his law practice or his current position as the district attorney of Cortland County.”

“I think the situation is really irrelevant to the campaign,” Milks said, apparently ignoring Suben’s lies during the campaign season. “His record as the D.A. for the last four years speaks for itself.”
