An Ohio man was charged Tuesday with the murder of a middle school teacher. Jeffrey W. Scullin Jr. was engaged to the daughter of Melinda Pleskovic and even served as a pallbearer at her funeral Saturday.

Scullin, 20, was charged with aggravated murder and is being held on $1 million bond. Scullin lived in Pleskovic's home with the victim's daughter, along with his 1-year-old daughter.

Scullin and Pleskovic's husband found her unresponsive on the kitchen floor on Oct. 23. An autopsy report concluded that Pleskovic died of a gunshot wound and "sharp force injuries."

The murder took place in Strongsville, a city located 20 miles southwest of Cleveland.

Strongsville Police Chief Mark Fender appeared at a press briefing Tuesday to announce the Scullin's arrest, but could not release any further information due to the ongoing investigation.

"While no community is immune from isolated attacks of violence, even as heinous as this case, this is a safe community," said Chief Fender in a press release. "The foundation of every strong, vibrant community is public safety, and the safety of our public has been and will continue to be our No. 1 priority."

The murder reportedly followed numerous reports of various suspicious activities such as harassment and break-ins. Pleskovic posted on her Facebook page concerned about stolen car keys and continuous car alarms.

Strongsville Police also responded to a 911 call made by Scullin saying he witnessed an unidentified person enter his house.

"We thought there was a psycho killer on the loose, and then we find out that next door is the person who did it," a neighbor of Pleskovic told WJW, a Fox-affiliated network in Cleveland, on Tuesday.

It is not clear when Scullin will appear in court, and whether he has responded to the charges.
