Is “One Punch Man” Season 3 coming?

The last episode of “One Punch Man” Season 2 aired last month. Fans are still waiting for further announcements when the next season will return.

According to EconoTimes, it’s likely for season 3 to be officially confirmed this year. However, the release date might take longer.

The Japanese anime series was released in the U.S. in 2016. However, it took over three years before season 2 premiered. Thus, it will not be surprising if fans would have to endure years of waiting for season 3.

The publication noted that the series might take a longer hiatus because the production is reportedly looking for a new studio to make its third season. Many felt that the second season was at par in quality with the first installment. Some even demanded that “One Punch Man” Season 3 be produced by Madhouse because the animation studio did an impressive job for season 1. However, nothing is final yet, there’s still a possibility that it will remain with J.C. Staff.

As for the upcoming series, season 2 culminated with the beginning of the Monster Association Arc. and season 3 is expected to cover it. It remains unknown how much will be covered in season 3 because the manga series is not yet done.

Meanwhile, Craig Elvy of ScreenRant added that “One Punch Man” Season 3 might have even lesser presence of Saitama. The last installment was heavily criticized due to the less screen time given to its main protagonist. The site feels that it will worsen in the next season.

Saitama was considered a breath of fresh air in the roster of anime protagonists. His unbeatable strength and laid back attitude was a hit to the viewers. He was so strong that he got bored because all of his battles only ended in a single punch and that's where the story came to life.

Elvy added that it was among the pitfalls in having a protagonist as strong as Saitama. He has to be removed from the action to give the fighting scene more time. Saitama’s lesser screen time in season 3 might not be that bad though as the series have many colorful characters that are interesting to explore like Genos, King, and Fubuki to name a few.
