The PlayStation 3 is nearly 12 years old and gaming has changed significantly since it launched. That being said, it’s no surprise that it was recently discovered that the online servers for some PS3 games are shutting down next month.

A Resetera member has discovered that the PS3 online servers for “Twisted Metal,” “Warhawk” and “Playstation All Stars” are all shutting down on Oct. 25. This means that when that date arrives, all of the online features, like online multiplayer modes, will be unplayable and gamers will only be able to play locally. The discovery of this information was made on the games’ respective store pages.

The most affected PS3 game will be “Warhawk” since it is an online-only game. On Oct. 25 at 12 a.m. PT, “Warhawk” on the PS3 will be almost completely unplayable. The only way to play the game will be through a local area network (LAN), which is probably something a bit uncommon these days.

As for “Twisted Metal” and “Playstation All Stars,” these games will still be perfectly playable but all of their online features will be inaccessible. Gamers will still be able to play the single player campaigns and play local multiplayer modes by having multiple controllers connected. “Playstation All Stars” for the PS Vita is also affected by this change.

Out of the three PS3 games, “Warhawk” is the title that has its online servers up the longest for 11 years. Meanwhile, the online server for “Twisted Metal” has been around for six years and “PlayStation All Stars” has the shortest life-span of only 5 years and 11 months. There’s currently no news yet on any plans to deliver sequels for “Warhawk” or “Twisted Metal,” but there are rumors suggesting that Sony might release a new version of “Playstation All Stars,” as pointed out by Game Rant.

Although the shutdown of the PS3 online servers are only affecting these three games, this is another clear sign that Sony and game developers are inching closer to completely walking away from supporting the console. In July, servers for “Gravity Rush 2” were also shut down, according to PlayStationLifestyle.

Production on the PS3 already ended in Japan last year after Sony sold more than 80 million units of the console. In March 2019, Sony will also be completely removing PS Plus free games for the PS Vita and the PS3.
