A visitor at an Indonesian zoo had a hair-raising encounter with an orangutan, who grabbed him through the bars of the cage and refused to let him go.

Hasanal Arifin, a 19-year-old trying to amp up his social media presence, was at the Kasang Kulim Zoo in the Riau province when the incident took place Monday.

Arifin discretely hopped over an enclosure fence while the zoo’s staff members were on a lunch break and allegedly began taunting the orangutan named Tina. Visitors are prohibited from entering the area, but the prankster broke the rules to capture a video of the primate for social media clout.

“The visitor wanted to take a video [and] create content without permission,” a furious zookeeper, identified as Ides, told the Newsflare, according to the New York Post. “He crossed the safety distance barrier. This is very dangerous and violates the rules. We have already reprimanded the man. Please take the rules seriously.”

The video that racked up millions of views online shows the irked orangutan grab Arifin’s t-shirt and pull him towards the cage.

Tina refused to let the young man go and continued yanking him even as a passerby came to his aid. The animal flipped the man sideways and tightly held onto Arifin before the man was finally free.

The passerby reportedly alerted the zoo staff and calmed the primate until the staffers arrived.

Arifin, who was uninjured in the exchange with Tina, was reprimanded and thrown out of the zoo.

The Kasang Kulim Zoo manager, Desrizal, reportedly apologized for the incident and said the man broke the safety protocol that visitors are expected to follow.

"What happened on Monday afternoon: the visitor jumped into the guardrail of the orangutan cage to take a video without the officer’s permission," the manager said, according to USA TODAY. "The visitor has violated the rules by jumping over the guardrail and kicking the orangutan."

The zoo also said that Tina is usually docile and that Arifin had ignored a sign that warns visitors from getting too close to the animal, as per LADbible.

The prankster later apologized for breaking the zoo’s rules.

“I apologise to the Kasang Kulim Zoo for crossing the fence and I apologise for the viral video,” Arifin said, according to the outlet.
