KEY POINTS

  • Aggression is key to surviving in "Outriders"
  • Save important abilities for crucial moments
  • If all else fails, reduce the World Tier level accordingly

While it may look like the typical cover-based third-person shooter, “Outriders” actually has a lot of depth in its combat from both mechanical and tactical perspectives. Players may get away with sticking their backs to a wall and plinking at enemies from afar, but there’s so much more to this game than that.

This also means that the game is more difficult by design when compared to other titles in the genre. Even the devs themselves have tried to condition players into the ideal “Outriders” playstyle, emphasizing how important momentum and aggression are in this game.

Here’s a collection of tips to keep “Outriders” players from dying over and over again.

Press The Attack

The game is designed to push the limits of the Anomaly powers that players have access to. One of the more subtle powers that players gain is the ability to heal through violence. Each class in the game heals a bit differently, but overall, players will have to keep fighting if they want to stay alive.

There are no passive regeneration mechanics or health kits to keep players going; it’s kill or be killed. A player can heal off of killing or damaging an enemy when a skull with a green plus sign is visible beneath an enemy’s health bar, VG24/7 noted.

Use Abilities Wisely

Anomaly powers can get players out of sticky situations or set up the perfect opportunity for chain kills against blobs of enemies.

While these abilities are free to cast, players should keep an eye on their cooldown timers. Some powers are more spammable than others, while others require more thought behind their use. Crowd control skills in particular deserve more attention.

Some CC skills are better used against groups while some are best reserved for interrupting enemy abilities or grenade throws.

Keep Moving

The cover system in “Outriders” is more like a suggestion instead of an integral part of combat. While it’s recommended to stay behind cover to keep bullets from hitting players, it’s more important to keep moving than to stay in one spot for too long.

Enemies love to throw grenades, and certain enemy types are designed to flush players out of cover. Use abilities to quickly take out fodder or key targets like melee chargers and tanks so they don’t get too overwhelming.
