KEY POINTS

  • Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence Jr. may be coming in with different fighting styles
  • Undefeated boxing champ Brandun Lee thinks it's Floyd Mayweather Jr. who could beat Spence and not Pacquiao
  • The Filipino boxing legend's conditioning coach Justin Fortune is confident his pupil will win

An undefeated boxing champ has made an early and bold Manny Pacquiao vs. Errol Spence Jr. prediction.

In August, colossal welterweight champions Pacquiao and Spence will share the ring for the first time. The former is coming off a two-year inactivity, while the younger Spence has proven that he can still compete despite suffering injuries due to a horrible car crash in 2019. Still, it is hard to predict the outcome of the fight.

However, according to IBO Inter-Continental super lightweight champion Brandun Lee, Spence is likely to obliterate the aggressive Pacquiao through strategic boxing. What’s even more interesting was that Lee predicted that between “Pac-Man” and Floyd Mayweather Jr., it’s “Money” who is more likely to beat Spence.

“[Manny] Pacquiao is a coming forward fighter and [Errol] Spence is a coming forward fighter. If we were talking about [Floyd] Mayweather and Spence that’s a different story because Mayweather can box,” Lee recently told Fight Hype.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen Manny really box, he is more of a throw combinations coming forward and kinda like spring out. So he is always coming forward, so I don’t really know on that one, maybe his new trainer can kinda try to teach him how to box for a little bit,” he added.

Lee admitted that he can’t really tell how the fight will end at this point, but he suggested that Spence will win.

“Spence can box,” the California-based boxer assessed. “He has good defense, great defense and he can box if he wants to. I don’t know how it plays out but I know who wins.”

“Personally I think Pacquiao is way too small for Spence,” he added. “Especially with the age, but you know Pacquiao is a different breed. If I had to bet, I’m betting on Errol Spence.”

Pacquiao is expected to start his training camp soon with a familiar roster of trainers, including his long-time coaches Freddie Roach and Justin Fortune.

Unlike Lee, Fortune has Pacquiao winning, and as much as he acknowledges Spence’s abilities, he is certain the American is still no match for the 42-year-old.

“It’s a good fight. Spence is a hell of a fighter, but Pacquiao is on a different level,” Fortune told Ellie Seckbach of Esnews. “Pacquiao is a different animal.”

“I don’t think he [Spence] is as strong as Pacquiao,” he examined. “He’s strong, but he’s not Manny-strong. And I’m sure he ain’t Manny-fast. Manny is [42 years old] but he is still incredibly fast.”
