A company is recalling certain buttermilk pancake and waffle mix products because they may be contaminated with cable fragments. The recalled products were sold at Walmart and Kroger stores.

Continental Mills posted two separate notices for the recalled pancake and waffle mixes. One recall affects Great Value Buttermilk Pancake & Waffle Mix sold at Walmart stores nationwide while the other affects Kroger Buttermilk Pancake & Waffle Mix. In both cases, the products may be contaminated with foreign material.

"Fragments from a cable used to clear the processing line were discovered in a limited amount of product," the recall alerts noted.

Any "outside contaminant" that's introduced to food during any point in the production or distribution is considered a "foreign matter." The alerts did not clarify how the problem was discovered, but to date, no consumer reports of contaminated products and injuries related to the issue have been reported.

That said, those who may have bought an affected product are being advised to dispose of it. They may also company's recall hotline at 1-800-578-7832 to get more information about how they can get a refund.

As mentioned, the affected Great Value-branded pancake and waffle mix were sold at Walmart stores nationwide. These can be identified by the UPC 078742370828, Lot code KX2063 and Best By Date of 09/01/2023.

On the other hand, the Kroger-branded pancake and waffle mix affected by the recall were sold in 17 states, namely Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. They can be identified by the UPC 01111088219, lot codes KX2063 and KX2064, and Best By Dates of 09/01/2023 and 09/02/2023.

"Food Safety is the highest priority for Continental Mills and the company is acting swiftly for the safety of consumers," the company announcements noted. "Continental Mills is working with the FDA and retailers to ensure any affected product is removed from the marketplace immediately."
