After playing a bounty hunter on “The Mandalorian,” fans will see Pedro Pascal take a villainous turn on the big screen. He’ll star in “Wonder Woman 1984” as Maxwell Lord, one of Diana Prince’s (Gal Gadot) enemies.

“Max is a dream-seller,” Pascal told Entertainment Weekly in the latest cover story. “It’s this character who encompasses a component of the era which is, you know, ‘Get whatever want, however you can. You’re entitled to it!’”

Maxwell Lord has appeared in the DC Comics both without powers and as a metahuman. In various different arcs, his powers vary in strength and enforcement, but they generally all seem to be some variation of mind-control powers.

Whether or not Lord has powers, Pascal makes it clear that Lord’s actions come at a cost. The question is really, how high is the price?

“And at any cost, ultimately, which represents a huge part of our culture and this kind of unabashed — it’s greed,” he told EW. “It’s f—ing greed, of course. But it’s also about ‘How do you be your best self? How do you win?’ So he’s definitely the face of that version of success.”

It seems clear that as a “dream-seller,” Lord likely has something to do with Steve Trevor’s mysterious return. Wonder Woman’s love died in World War I, but he’ll show up in 1984 looking as if he hasn’t aged a day. While Diana has the luxury of aging like an Amazonian demi-god, that shouldn’t be the case for the very human Steve Trevor.

It also seems likely that Lord is responsible for Cheetah. Kristen Wiig plays Diana’s new friend, and the EW story hints that she’ll be tempted by Lord’s salespitch. “If Diana is immune to Lord’s charms, her new co-worker Barbara Minerva — a shy, socially awkward gemologist played with stumbling-foal charm and a frizzled perm by Kristen Wiig — is not,” the article teases.

Barbara becomes a villain called Cheetah, and the name is pretty literal. Barbara transforms into a hybrid of a human and jungle cat with super strength, speed and senses. In the comics, she can communicate with actual cheetahs and has claws and fangs.

Warner Bros. will release “Wonder Woman 1984” in theaters on June 5.
