Fauci speaks during a press briefing at the White House in Washington

Animal rights organization PETA is marking Dr. Anthony Fauci's retirement as the White House chief medical advisor and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases with a mocking Halloween costume.

The costume depicts Fauci with a mask, lab coat, massive syringe and plush beagle outfitted with a "Good Riddance, Fauci" dog collar.

PETA says the NIAID under Fauci's management killed and harmed countless animals, including monkeys and dogs, during failed AIDS research experiments. PETA says on its website that he "never met an animal he wouldn't experiment on."

The costume is on sale on the PETA website for $70.99. PETA has sparked controversy during Halloweens' past, mocking Donald Trump Jr., "Tiger King" Jeff Lowe and racehorse trainer Bob Baffert.

"This year, Halloween revelers tired of dressing as Freddy Krueger, Darth Vader, or other fictional villains can dress as a real-life monster: Dr. Anthony Fauci," PETA says on its website.

PETA said its "wish has come true" when Fauci announced he would step down before the Biden administration term ended.

PETA said it "hopes Fauci's departure will make way for a forward-thinking NIAID leader who will implement state-of-the-art, human-relevant research methods that don't use animals."

In 2008, President George W. Bush awarded Fauci with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. President Joe Biden praised Fauci in August for his "many contributions to public health."

"I extend my deepest thanks for his public service. The United States of America is stronger, more resilient, and healthier because of him," Biden said in a statement.
