Pizza Hut will become one of the latest restaurant brands to add a Beyond Meat option to its menu. Starting Tuesday, meat-free pepperoni will be a topping choice for pizza in five U.S. cities.

The Beyond Meat pepperoni option will only be offered for a limited time, in a limited number of cities. You can find the special meatless offer in Houston; Albany, New York; Macon Georgia; Columbus, Ohio; and Jacksonville, Florida; across 70 different locations in those cities.

Beyond Meat and Yum Brands officially partnered up in February but Beyond Meat has been offering trial products with Yum chains before that.

The meatless pepperoni option comes as the newest product being tested by the brand at Pizza Hut in an expansion of its relationship. Last November, Beyond Meats trialed two different limited-time pizzas that used “Beyond Sausage.”

"Pizza Hut's new Beyond Pepperoni Pizza delivers the same iconic taste as our original pepperoni that fans know and love," Georgeanne Erickson, Chief Brand Officer for Pizza Hut, said in a press release.

"With this new plant-based option, we're giving customers more choices and more reasons to love Pizza Hut."

The new option can attract a whole new customer base that is trying to reduce their meat intake or is not eating meat at all. A new customer base could help the chain recover after its pandemic pizza boom that has now slowed down.

"We know there is strong consumer demand for pepperoni, and we're thrilled to unveil a game-changing plant-based pepperoni topping as the next chapter in our innovation-focused partnership with Pizza Hut," Dariush Ajami, Chief Innovation Officer for Beyond Meat, said in a press release.

Expanding to different restaurant chains can also benefit Beyond Meat, which sees most of its sales coming from its individual products.

Partnerships between big restaurants and Beyond Meat bring excitement among consumers but there has been a trend of Beyond Meat products at fast-food chains not sticking around for long, and only being offered as a trial.
