Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially announced that the PlayStation 5 will be released sometime in the holiday of 2020. However, the Japanese gaming console maker did not reveal the specific date of the PS5’s arrival. Interestingly, a new leak claims that the PlayStation 5 will arrive in Nov. 2020 and will have a retail price of $499 in the US.

LetsGoDigital first spotted the leak about the release date and price of the PlayStation 5 from Twitter user PSErebus. The account has been sharing information about PlayStation 5 and PlayStation in general. PSErebus is the same tipster who leaked the release date of “The Last of Us 2,” so, in terms of credibility, the tipster has an excellent rating.

The Twitter user also shared that the PlayStation 5 will be fully backwards compatible with PlayStation format discs released since 1994. Sony Interactive Entertainment has yet to reveal the specific release date of its next-generation gaming console. However, based on the holiday 2020 release window, the Nov. 2020 claim lines up with everything that we have heard so far about the release date.

As with the recommended retail price of the PlayStation 5, we have heard earlier from one of the top bosses of Sony that the company is willing to release the PS5 at a lower price. This is so Sony can establish a stable user base as well as to facilitate a smoother transition from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5. The Japanese gaming console maker will be releasing on the same release window as its direct competitor, Xbox Two.

It is only imperative that it gives gamers a better and more attractive deal to encourage them to purchase their next-generation gaming console. Meanwhile, a patent filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment recently surfaced online, showing what many presumed to be the upcoming PS5 DualShock 5 controller. Aside from the built-in rumor microphone and a USB-C outlet shown in the patent, there are noticeably little changes in the alleged PS5 controller.

Sony has yet to comment on the recent claim about the PlayStation release date and retail price. For now, take these details with a pinch of salt.
