An attempted kidnapping in Ohio was thwarted due to the efforts of a quick-minded 8-year-old boy, according to local reports.

The incident occurred in Middletown, a city 30 miles outside of Cincinnati. The boy, Chance, was with his 10-year-old sister, Skylar, in the backseat of his grandmother’s car after being driven to a local hospital. Their grandmother, Nita Coburn, 69, stepped out of the car to help take a woman into the emergency room.

While Coburn helped the woman, a man jumped into the driver’s seat to drive away. The boy quickly moved to jump out of the car and told his sister to do the same. The man tried to grab the girl but both were able to escape.

"What Chance did was extremely heroic," Middletown Officer Connor Kirby said. "It shows how much he loves his sister."

"Chance made sure that he and his sister Skylar got out of their car when it was stolen. They weren't about to be taken by some stranger! And let's not forget their fierce grandma who gave it her all trying to save them," the Middletown Police Department wrote on Facebook.

Not long after the attempted kidnapping, police spotted and stopped the vehicle.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on two counts of attempted kidnapping and felonious assault and grand theft.
