A woman from Millbrook, Alabama, is facing numerous charges after calling the police and lying about a burglary because she wanted to scare her husband, who she thought was cheating on her.

Amber Lewis, 33, reported a burglary last Wednesday, and police are now saying that her story was "utterly ridiculous," reports Montgomery Adviser. After arriving at the location, police saw Lewis and a female friend outside Lewis' home, and the two told officers they didn't know who was inside.

She was soon arrested after police identified the "suspect" as her husband. Lewis was charged with making a false report to law enforcement. On top of that, marijuana, cocaine, and other drugs were seen throughout the house, including in the couple's 5-year-old child's bedroom, according to police. Lewis was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and chemical endangerment of a child as a result.

"She knew her husband was engaged in an extramarital affair and called the police on her husband and told us it was a burglary. What her goal was, I have no idea," Millbrook Police Chief PK Johnson said in a phone call to media outlets, reports USA Today. "Bottom line: You lie to the police, you go to jail."

He continued to say in a statement, "This case is a perfect example of two individuals having marital issues and dragging law enforcement into their personal issues in an attempt to cause harm or embarrassment to each other. Our officers were absolutely furious, and they should be. Our resources were compromised and lives were unnecessarily placed in jeopardy. That is never acceptable."
