  • Polygon partnered with Nothing for the launch of Nothing Phone (1)
  • Initially, the partnership will be in the form of an NFT membership club
  • NFTs will be provided to crowdfund participants and people who pre-order

The Polygon Network, a scaling solution for Ethereum, has partnered with mobile phone maker Nothing to bring Web3 close to smartphone users and also launch a new NFT collection.

Crypto protocols have once again started making moves to integrate blockchain technology into smartphones. The Polygon network's Vice President of Growth Arjun Kalsy discussed future plans in an interview with Decrypt published earlier this week and confirmed that the network will be partnering with Nothing for the launch of the latter's first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1).

The news comes after the proof-of-history-based Solana announced Saga, a flagship Android mobile phone with unique functionality and features. The Saga smartphone was introduced in New York in June and pre-orders for the phone require a $100 fully-refundable deposit.

Initially, the partnership between Nothing and Polygon, formerly known as Matic, will be in the form of an NFT membership club and NFTs will be provided to the people who help crowdfund the phone's launch along with those who pre-order it. The NFTs called Nothing’s Black Dot NFTs will introduce several benefits to the buyers of Nothing Phone (1), including early access to products.

Polygon Vice President of Growth Kalsy claimed that the plan is to include easy access to games and other applications for the users of the Android-based Nothing Phone (1). In the future, the phone could be used for payments as well via Polygon ID, the company’s zero-knowledge, proof-based identification solution.

“How do we get even closer to the user? The largest distribution platform in the world is the mobile phone,” Kalsy said. “Basically, the timing was right that now we can take this technology to the masses.”
