  • Ighalo could be bought out by Man Utd
  • Ighalo loan deal lapsing soon
  • Red Devils may spend big to keep Ighalo

Odion Ighalo is a player temporarily suiting up for Manchester United although it has been mentioned time and again that he could be absorbed by the Red Devils. His tenure is a bit complicated due to the COVID1-9 pandemic but it appears the Red Devils want to keep him for a longer spell.

Ighalo is on loan and was originally scheduled to return to China to rejoin his mother team which is Shanghai Shenhua. The Nigerian has churned out impressive performances for United, a reason why there are murmurs that his stay could either be extended or even made permanent. Considering the team is struggling without a focal point on offense, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly trying to pull strings in keeping the 30-year-old footballer for a longer spell at Old Trafford, the Evening Standard reported.

The Red Devils have struggled to find a new offensive spark following the departure of Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku move to Inter Milan and Marcus Rashford was picked to fill in the void. Unfortunately, 22-year-old is still out due to a back injury, a vacuum that Ighalo is trying to plug. The problem United is facing is that the original setup was for him to return to China in May.

Contracts are likely to be renegotiated moving forward. But the better question is whether the Red Devils want a temporary replacement of someone they can keep. If so, it raises another question. Does Manchester United have the financial resources to take in Ighalo?

As mentioned in a previous post, Ighalo is pretty happy about getting the chance to play for United. It is a dream come true for the Nigerian national. However, it remains that no formal offer has been made to him. He pointed out how the season is still not officially over and that he needs to honor the current loan deal before thinking of a permanent switch.

"You don't just rush and do things: 'I'm going here, I'm going here.' I have to sit down and finish the season well, sit down with my agent, see what's on the ground: 'A, B, C, D, is on the ground. Okay we have to pick,'" Ighalo was quoted of saying by Elegbete TV.
