Prince Andrew was once accused of abusing his power as a member of the royal family.

In the Channel 5 documentary “Royal Scandals,” royal author Katie Nicholl said that the dad of two has abused his power, especially when it comes to costs of his royal perks. As such, he was dubbed as “Air Miles Andy,” and the nickname is definitely something that he wants people to forget.

“He has used the Royal Flight, Royal Helicopter, on many occasions, claiming that it’s the most efficient way to get to work, and in some cases, it has been. I think there are probably some people who would say it is a sense of entitlement and it’s also greedy,” she said.

Nicholl went on to say that Prince Andrew’s abuse of power has made him look like he’s completely out of touch with the public. Royal historian Richard Fitzwilliams echoed Nicholl’s thoughts.

“The Duke of York was called ‘Air Miles Andy’ by newspapers who were outraged at trips he was taking. The fact that he justified some of the trips by saying that they were linked to British businesses or linked to his engagements did not alter the fact that the overall perception was that he was very fond of golf courses,” he said.

Fitzwilliams added that the matter of royal travel is almost always debated on. The Royals are known for giving out the vibe that they travel in the most economical of ways as long as their safety and security aren’t sacrificed. The royal expert said that this is true in most cases.

Meanwhile, Prince Andrew isn’t the only member of the royal family who was criticized for his lavish lifestyle. Meghan Markle also drew flak after it was revealed that she flew to the United States in a private jet for her lavish baby shower with friends.

Her trip on the private jet is estimated to have cost over £170,000 or over $215,000.
