Prince Charles couldn’t be happier to realize that the world has finally understood what he’s all about after almost 70 years.

Ingrid Seward, a royal reporter for The Sun, said that Prince Charles had gone through so much ever since he became aware that he will one day become king. But despite all of the criticisms he has received, the Prince of Wales remained focus on his goals, as well as the issues closest to his heart.

For instance, Prince Charles efforts to put an end to the use of plastic is slowly becoming a huge success. When she was still alive, Princess Diana told Seward how Prince Charles advised her to not use aerosol hairspray because it damages the ozone layer. At that time, the late Princess of Wales and Seward didn’t have any idea what the ozone layer was.

Prince Charles was also scrutinized by the public after his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles was revealed. In 1995, Princess Diana exposed her ex-husband and Bowles’ relationship to the world during her Panorama interview. But the Duke of Cornwall decided to still follow his heart and wed Bowles in a civil ceremony in 2005.

“Charles was certain that given time, Camilla would be appreciated – and he has been proved right. The last thing he wants to do is brag: ‘I told you so,’” Seward wrote.

“He is simply happy he is finally being listened to. It might have taken most of his adult life, but it is better to have achieved what he has by patience and fortitude than not at all. He has every reason to feel pleased with himself. Instead, he is relieved, at long last, people are beginning to understand him,” Seward concluded.

Prince Charles will be celebrating his 70th birthday on Nov. 14 and several articles and at least one documentary from BBC has been released to pay tribute to the future King.
