Prince Charles and Princess Diana previously got into a very public spat just six years after their royal wedding.

In one of the royal couple’s photos taken by Kent Gavin, the Prince and Princess of Wales were photographed on board the heir to the throne’s J reg Aston Martin car. The car was given to Prince Charles by Queen Elizabeth on his 21st birthday.

After attending a polo match at Smiths Lawn in Windsor, after a day at Ascot races, Prince Charles and Princess Diana had an argument and the future king snapped at his ex-wife to get off the car.

“No sooner had Di dismounted than Charles began inspecting for dents. The Princess, not wholly repentant, stood by, unamused. Fortunately for her, the auto was unscathed. After Charles departed happily to play polo, Di plopped herself on the car, albeit somewhat gingerly, crossed her endless gams and smiling innocently,” a source told People.

Two days later, Prince Charles reportedly damaged the car himself following a minor accident in Windsor. The incident resulted in Prince Charles having to pay a large repair bill.

Prince Charles loved the car so much that he continued using it while dating Camilla. The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall have been photographed driving around the car years after Princess Diana passed away.

In 2018, The Telegraph reported that Prince Charles tried to make the car more environment-friendly by having it run on surplus English white wine. Prince Charles persuaded the engineers at the car firm to change the fuel source.

“They discovered they could run it on surplus English white wine, but also I hadn’t realized that they had mixed whey into it too. The engineers at Aston said, ‘Oh, it’ll ruin the whole thing’. I said, ‘Well I won’t drive it then’, so they got on with it and now they admit that it runs better and is more powerful on that fuel than it is on petrol. And also, it smells delicious as you’re driving along,” they said.
