Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth were allegedly “irritated” by the inconsistencies in Meghan Markle’s excuses as to why she could not patch things up with her father, Thomas Markle.

In his book “Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors,” author Tom Bower detailed how the senior members of the royal family reacted when the Duchess of Sussex’s rift with her father came to light days after her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.

Thomas had pulled out of Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding days before the ceremony after an alleged heart attack. In a statement two days before the big day, Meghan had announced her father would not be attending her wedding, adding she wanted to give him “the space he needs to focus on his health.”

After the wedding, however, Thomas gave an interview and revealed it was his choice not to attend the wedding as he did not want to embarrass Meghan. He also admitted he had been paid to pose for paparazzi photos before the wedding, further aggravating his rift with his daughter.

Bower revealed the senior members of the royal family were not happy about Thomas’s TV appearances, and had held a meeting weeks before the royal wedding to convince Meghan to resolve her issues with her father, but she had always given them reasons why she could not.

The author claimed Prince Charles “had never really understood” her excuses, and went straight to Prince Harry to confront him about his wife.

“That week, his irritation about Thomas Markle’s TV appearances, especially his criticism of the Royal Family, came to a head. ‘Can’t she just go and see him and make this stop?’,” the Prince of Wales allegedly told Prince Harry.

The Duke of Sussex allegedly explained Meghan had refused to call her father because she suspected his phone was “not in his possession” and that his email had been compromised. However, Bower said “the inconsistencies of Meghan’s excuses not only irritated Charles but also the Queen.”

Two years later, Prince Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping down as working royals. According to Bower, the decision was largely because Meghan was angry the Palace had not done something to protect her image.

“In particular, Meghan fumed about the refusal officially to criticize Thomas Markle. From her perspective, Meghan was isolated, vulnerable and stifled by conventions,” wrote Bower.
