Prince George’s second birthday may have come and gone, but it’s only now that news of a special celebration with grandmother Carole Middleton came out. Apparently, just hours before Duchess Catherine’s son's birthday party -- held on July 22 -- the royal toddler and his grandmother spent an enjoyable morning frolicking at the beach.

Prince George and his grandmother were spotted holding hands while paddling in the sea, Hello! reported. The two even brought their pet dog Lupo on their beach date. The playful prince also dug a hole in the sand using a bucket and spade. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s oldest child reportedly looked very cute, wearing a navy padded jacket and blue shorts. The doting grandmother took several snaps of her grandson as he enjoyed playing in the sand. After the pair’s morning beach date, Prince George and his grandmother returned to Anmer Hall.

This is not the first time that Prince George went on a play date with his grandmother. Earlier in July, the two visited the Bucklebury Farm Park in Berkshire, England, Pop Sugar stated. Middleton even carried the royal toddler on her shoulders as the two walked back to their car. The pair wore matching sweaters during their petting zoo adventure.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles recently had part of his garden at Highgrove converted into a playground for his grandchildren, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. According to Express, the heir to the throne had a shepherd’s hut with a bench, bed and a stove constructed in the property. Prince Charles even had the thatch-roof treehouse rebuilt so his grandchildren could also enjoy the old structure. The treehouse, known as the “Hollyrood House,” was built for Prince William’s 7th birthday in 1989.
