Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made it clear they would not follow in Prince William and Kate Middleton’s footsteps when it came to the birth of their first child.

However, once Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor arrived, Prince Harry reportedly ordered the Palace to stray from a royal tradition.

During an appearance on ITV’s The Royal Rota, royal correspondent Chris Ship claimed Prince Harry ordered the palace to withhold information about the birth of his son.

“My understanding is because Harry wanted to be the person to announce it, therefore, he didn’t want it to get out in an email. He wanted to do the announcement in front of you, he wanted to say, ‘I’ve had a son.’ That’s the way he wanted to do it,” Ship explained.

However, Harry’s alleged decision caused some controversy, after more details about Archie’s birth were revealed. While Buckingham Palace made an announcement about the royal baby’s birth on May 6 around 2 p.m. local time, the infant was actually born at 5:26 a.m.

Alan Jones, who works for the Press Association, revealed members of the media were unhappy about the inaccurate information they were given. “They could have rung us individually and said, ‘stuff going to happen. Don’t worry, we’ll send out an email and explain everything,’” he said.

“It’s just confusing, saying she’s gone into labor when she’s had the labor,” Jones added.

On Meghan and Harry’s Instagram page, the palace released a vague statement about Archie’s birth and promised to share more details in the future. “We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019,” the statement read.

“Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thanks members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.”

It was later revealed Meghan gave birth to Archie at Portland Hospital in Fitzrovia. The Duchess of Sussex is currently on maternity. However, Prince Harry continues to make public appearances. The new father was most recently spotted over the weekend attending Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding to Thomas Kingston.
