Shortly after Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in May 2018, the former actress’ father, Thomas, and half-sister, Samantha began slamming the royal couple in the press. However, clips from a documentary suggest the Duke of Sussex may be responsible for the public family feud.

The Channel 5 documentary, “Meghan and the Markles,” discussed the Duchess of Sussex’s relationship and how it changed once she began her relationship with Prince Harry.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton revealed the comment Harry made ahead of the holidays in 2017, may have caused the feud with Meghan’s family. During an interview with BBC Radio Four, Harry stated the Royal family was “the family, I suppose, she’s never had.”

Morton claims the comment may have rubbed Meghan’s family the wrong way. “That really lit the blue touch paper as far as Samantha, Tom and the rest of them were concerned. They felt that she had a family,” he explained.

“She was trying to ghost the Markles out of her life, and they felt real resentment that here is this woman trying to deny her Markle background.”

Samantha, who appeared in the documentary, revealed the comment made her question whether Meghan was ashamed of her family.

“The first thing I thought was ‘I don’t think Harry has been given the full story.’ Something was not right. Though we weren’t the classic family together on schedule for every holiday, we were family,” she explained.

“Then we questioned why… why would she be embarrassed about her family, why would you need to set the stage differently? It was starting to feel like she wasn’t reaching out to the family,” she added.

Meghan’s relationship with her father seemingly fell apart ahead of the royal wedding when he was caught staging pictures with the paparazzi. The Duchess of Sussex reportedly stopped speaking to Thomas the day after the royal wedding.
