Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are as ill-judged as Princess Diana and Prince Charles.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex became emotional in their interview with ITV for the documentary entitled “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.” The couple opened up about their struggles as royals and as new parents, with Markle saying that she was not okay and Prince Harry saying that he and Prince William are on different paths.

According to Richard Kay of Daily Mail, the couple failed to learn Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s lessons when they vented their frustrations in a television interview following the scrutiny they felt at the hands of the media.

“The decision will, I believe, prove to be as ill-judged as Diana’s Panorama interview, and Prince Charles's confession about his failing marriage to Jonathan Dimbleby,” Kay wrote. “Both were initiatives that started off with the noblest of aims, to correct what they felt were misconceptions about their roles and lives.”

Kay said that the Prince and Princess of Wales both did it with a noble intention. They wanted to correct the misconceptions about their roles and lives, but both interviews did not turn out as they expected.

“But both are remembered chiefly for their admissions of adultery. This was the high-water mark in what became known as the War of the Wales’s, an unedifying tit-for-tat in which both sides of an increasingly bitter marital dispute waged a public war of abuse against the other,” Kay continued.

According to Kay, the interview damaged Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s reputations. It also affected the monarchy.

On Tuesday, Markle stepped out for the first time following her emotional interview. The duchess looked gorgeous in her purple dress. However, some questioned Markle’s statement when she said that she struggled with the media attention because it seemed that she was enjoying it.

“The struggle is unreal,” one netizen wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II and the members of the royal family were reportedly “horrified” with the Sussexes’ interview. According to BBC royal correspondent Jonny Dymond, the monarchy is supposed to be a unifying force but Prince Harry and Markle are “being divisive.”
