Prince William is the first heir to set precedence on hospital births.

According to Georgina Laud, a journalist for Express, the Duke of Cambridge is the first heir born in a hospital. Traditionally, royal babies were born at home. Queen Elizabeth II delivered her four children either in Buckingham Palace of Clarence House.

However, this practice was changed when Princess Diana opted to deliver Prince William at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London. The Prince and Princess of Wales continued this tradition as they also chose to give birth to Prince Harry in the exclusive maternity ward of the same hospital.

Kate Middleton followed this and gave birth to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis in the same facility. Both royal moms also posed for photos outside the Lindo Wing for their newborn’s public debut.

The Lindo Wing’s deluxe package costs between $7,600 to $8,100. Meanwhile, its standard room costs about $1,500.

Meghan Markle might break this tradition as there are rumors that the Duchess of Sussex prefers to give birth at home. Sources told Daily Mail that Prince Harry’s wife is considering a home birth plan.

A friend of Markle’s said that she still practices yoga daily and has “sailed” through her pregnancy. The former “Suits” star is in extremely good health and sees no reason why she could not enjoy a safe delivery in the privacy of Frogmore Cottage.

The insider added that home birth is Markle’s favored choice. However, this may change depending on how things unfold when the day comes.

Some sources said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not ruling out a hospital delivery because of Markle’s age. The royal is over 35 years old and there’s an increased risk of premature birth or the need for an epidural or cesarean.

Markle has also no plans of following Princess Diana and Middleton’s photo shoot just hours after giving birth. In fact, she reportedly felt sorry for the Duchess of Cambridge for having to wear makeup, dress and high heels just to be photographed with her newborn.

An insider already said earlier that Markle doesn’t want to be pressured to look “immaculate” like her sister-in-law. Prince Harry’s wife is anxious and is thinking more of the possible complications since she’s having a geriatric pregnancy.
