Princess Diana wasn’t pleased whenever Prince Charles would tell him that he has something to do that doesn’t involve her.

In the book “The Royals” by Kitty Kelley, the royal author said that the late Princess of Wales has taken umbrage with her husband going on trips and accused him of wanting to get away.

Prince Charles, on the other hand, blamed the mom of two for the open warfare because she had started to talk back.

“Usually restrained in public, the Princess let loose in private. She railed about her husband’s ‘toadying’ friends, his preoccupation with polo, his dinner parties, with ‘boring old me who smell of cigars,’ and his solitary trips to fish and paint and ski… She said his excursions were simply excuses to get away from her,” Kelley said.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s relationship started to go downhill even before they tied the knot. Shortly after their engagement, the Princess of Wales found out that Prince Charles was having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. But since she loved Prince Charles, she still chose to marry him.

In the book “Charles at 70: Thoughts, Hopes, and Dreams,” royal correspondent Robert Jobson said that the future King desperately wanted to get out of his wedding to Princess Diana in 1981.

While speaking to his friends, Prince Charles said, “I desperately wanted to get out of the wedding in 1981, when during the engagement I discovered just how awful the prospects were, having had no chance to get to know Diana beforehand.”

Prince Charles’ decision to propose to Princess Diana was not solely his. Rather, it was influenced by his father, Prince Philip. Jobson said that Princess Diana and Prince Charles were not madly in love with each other.

After their 1981 wedding, the couple announced their separation in 1992. Their divorce was finalized in 1996. The couple was blessed with two children together, Prince William and Prince Harry.
