Princess Diana knew that people loved her even when she was just a child.

Princess Diana earned the title “The People’s Princess” after former Prime Minister Tony Blair introduced the concept in a speech he delivered after her death. According to Matthew Kirkham, a journalist for Express, the term was not only a reference to her reputation or humanitarian work but also to the sense of ownership people had over her life.

In Netflix’s 2017 documentary “The Story of Diana,” Dr. Kate Williams, a royal historian, claimed that the late Princess of Wales “started to realise how people fall in love with her” when she was just a child.

“She [Diana] was one of those children that goes into the room and everyone is charmed by her,” Williams explained.

Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer noted that it would be wrong to think of his sister as a “saintly child.”

“I mean, she was quite naughty. Never with malice, you know just sort of pushing the boundaries,” he said.

Although Princess Diana was kind and warm, some claimed that she could also be deceitful and manipulative. According to Lady Colin Campbell, Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom was “very wily” and she knew how to “sex things up” so she would come out of any situation smelling of roses.

In Channel 5’s documentary “Royals at War,” Andrew Morton recalled an incident when the People’s Princess leaked Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s separation because she was furious when an uncomplimentary rival book was due out before her own book.

Morton advised that they needed another “fact” and Princess Diana spilled the royal split which really angered Queen Elizabeth II. The royal family blamed the Duchess of York for the incident. Ferguson, herself, didn’t suspect that it was Princess Diana who did it.

Robert Jobson also said that Prince Charles’ first wife was “quite calculating.” She was once offered a new car but refused and instead suggested that Ferguson tried it out first to see the people’s reaction. She wanted to make sure that everything was fine before stepping away, leaving Ferguson with all the bad publicity if things didn’t turn out well.
