Although the palace hasn’t addressed reports about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s excessive spending, a friend of Princess Diana posted a series of tweets that defended the couple’s expensive travel habits.

Recent reports claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were spotted getting on a private jet four times in the 11 days. The couple face backlash over their travel method, which contradicted their past statements about preserving the environment.

While there has been speculation that the emissions from the trips will have a damaging impact on the environment, Diana’s old friend, Elton John denied claims that Meghan and Harry’s flights caused harm to the environment.

On Monday, John took to Twitter to respond to the various reports accusing the couple of going against their comments about the environment.

“I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,” John tweeted.

“Prince Harry’s mother, Diana Princess of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry, and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death,” the “Saturday” singer wrote.

John went on to reveal the couple’s trip was “carbon neutral,” and called on the media to stop scrutinizing Meghan and Prince Harry.

“After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquillity of our home. To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.

“To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint™.

“I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis.”

Although Elton made a heartfelt plea in an attempt to stop the attack on Prince Harry and Meghan, the palace has yet to address reports criticizing the couple’s controversial travel methods.
