Meghan Markle went through some big changes within the last couple years. The former actress married Prince Harry, became the Duchess of Sussex and welcomed a baby boy. However, friend Priyanka Chopra says the Duchess is still the same old Meghan.

“A lot of people got to know her after everything [once she started dating Harry], but I knew her before and she’s the same chick,” Chopra assured the Sunday Times (via Marie Claire).

Chopra, who is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, pointed out Meghan’s philanthropic efforts. The Duchess has been sure to support education, women’s rights and performing arts. She even speaks out about feminism, despite some critics thinking it’s too political for a member of the royal family.

“Now that she’s got a real platform, she talks about the same things she always did. We spent hours speaking about the difference that influence and dialogue can make to the world before this whole thing happened, so what you see now is authentically her. She’s always been the girl wanting to move the needle.”

The “Isn’t It Romantic” star also noted that she’d seen a lot of negative coverage of her friend. Chopra called the reports racist but noted that the Duchess can handle herself.

“I’ve seen that and it’s really unfortunate. But if there’s anyone who can handle it, it’s her,” Chopra said. “Of course it has to do with racism, it’s an obvious reason. But the beauty of Meg is that she’s been herself through all of this.”

Meghan reportedly doesn’t read anything that’s written about her.
