  • Sony's official PS5 pre-order page is now live
  • The Japanese gaming giant is now offering a direct PS5 pre-order program
  • Unfortunately, the program is only availble to players with address based in the U.S.

Sony surprised the gaming industry when it announced a direct-sales program ahead of the official unveiling of the price and release date of the PS5. The gaming giant’s next-gen console is now up for pre-order. But for those who want to be the first in line to reserve the PS5, the company has a more exciting offer.

Sony’s direct PS5 pre-order program bypasses the usual retail channels. Sony will send an email to select prospective PS5 buyers using the address of the players’ registered PSN account. The email contains details about the exact time window to place an order, which could either be the standard or the digital version.

Earlier, the Japanese gaming giant emphasized that there is a limit of one PS5 per PSN ID. Those invited to pre-order are also entitled to order PS5 peripherals with their console. This includes the DualSense controller, cameras, headsets, media remotes and controller charging stands.

PSN IDs all over the world are eligible for this direct PS5 pre-order program but for now, pre-orders only ship to U.S. addresses. Sony has not yet confirmed if a similar campaign would roll out to other regions. Those who did not receive the email from Sony could still visit Sony’s official pre-order site to express their interest in purchasing the PS5.

Interested gamers only need to key in a single piece of information into the form, that is, their PlayStation ID. Sony would most probably choose those who can actually pre-order the PS5 based on the player’s interest in past PlayStation activities. Sony maintains that its next-generation gaming console will arrive sometime in the holiday of 2020.

Until now, the industry is clueless of the official price and release date of the PS5. Rumors have it that it might retail at $499 while other industry insiders believe it would be around $599. Microsoft announced earlier that the Xbox Series X would arrive in November 2020. However, the upcoming gaming console from the Redmond-based tech giant is not yet available for pre-order.
