Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are reportedly planning to part ways with Sergio Ramos, who joined them on a free transfer from Real Madrid this summer.

Ramos, who is out with a calf issue, is yet to make an appearance for PSG this season as he has missed all their 16 competitive matches. PSG are frustrated with the situation and could consider terminating Ramos’ contract, reported French publication, Le Parisien. For the same, PSG will have to reach an agreement with the Spaniard, who is contracted with the club until 2023.

"We know Ramos has had an injury. The Spanish press are playing games, we all knew he had a problem. We know what's happening here," PSG’s sporting director Leonardo said after their 2-1 win over Lille in Ligue 1 on Friday.

While PSG have given out optimistic statements in public, there have been rumors stating the club is regretting to have jumped the gun to land the veteran defender. Ramos has made only four competitive appearances in this calendar year, with the last one being in May, which was Real Madrid’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final second leg in London.

Ramos, who was expected to return to full training with the PSG squad this week, still has no concrete timeline of his comeback as he continues to battle an injury in his soleus muscle, according to Spanish media outlet Diario AS.

PSG have identified several knee and calf issues ever since Ramos has joined them from Los Blancos in the summer of 2021. With several medical reports developing week after week and Ramos remaining out of action, it looks like the Ligue 1 giants are now less optimistic with regard to the center-back’s return to action.

Following a few recent examinations, PSG’s medical team has expressed doubts about the ability of Ramos to return to the highest level, according to Le10Sport.

Ramos, who has been playing soccer for close to two decades now, is considered among the most decorated defenders in the sport's history. Having spent as many as 16 seasons at Real Madrid, Ramos had won many laurels for the club, including four Champions League trophies, a competition that still eludes his current club PSG.

During the 2021 summer market, PSG set the window on fire as they pulled off a few major free transfers. Apart from signing four-time Champions League winner, Ramos, from Real Madrid for free, the French club also secured Gini Wijnaldum from Liverpool FC, Gianluigi Donnarumma from AC Milan and Lionel Messi from FC Barcelona – all on free transfers.
