Queen Elizabeth was previously accused of sacking BBC after Princess Diana’s controversial Panorama interview in 1995 was released. The late royal’s shocking revelations also solicited different reactions from the members of the royal family.

According to the Sunday Telegraph, BBC executives became concerned about losing their exclusive rights to the Queen’s broadcast following Princess Diana’s interview. While speaking with Martin Bashir, the Princess of Wales slammed Prince Charles for his affair and their failed marriage.

The publication also released the memo that was given to the head of events to the chief executive of BBC in 1997.

“It is widely perceived that the BBC is in effect being penalized because of the Princess of Wales’ Panorama interview and thus we do not give up our responsibility for the broadcast voluntarily but have to a degree been ‘sacked,’” the memo read.

However, the Queen was quick to deny the rumors. Until today, BBC still has exclusive rights to the Queen’s broadcast.

However, this didn’t stop the Queen for making her stand known after Princess Diana exposed the royal family’s dirt on television. She reportedly wrote a letter to the late royal urging her to immediately finalize her divorce from Prince Charles.

Her younger sister, Princess Margaret, was also upset with what Princess Diana said during the interview. While speaking with Fox News, royal biographer Craig Brown said that Princess Diana betrayed the royal family, and she refused to forgive her.

“Broadcasting your feelings to the world without a warning was considered an amazing kind of betrayal even if what Diana was alleging was true. Margaret was very unforgiving. She wouldn’t even have magazines with Diana’s face on the cover nearby,” he said.

And when Prince William was much younger, he was also upset when he found out that Princess Diana talked to the press about her marriage and Prince Charles. But as he got older, he admitted that he understood why his mom did what she had to do.

“The easiest thing to do is just to say or go to the media yourself. Open that door. [But] once you’ve opened it you can never close it again,” he said.
