Queen Elizabeth II failed Princess Diana in her last attempt to save her marriage with Prince Charles.

The Prince and Princess of Wales had a fairytale wedding. Unfortunately, their marriage didn’t have a happy ending. According to some sources, Princess Diana didn’t really want to divorce her husband.

Based on the recordings that were featured in the documentary “Diana: In Her Own Words,” Princess Diana sought the help of the Queen in an attempt to save her marriage with Prince Charles for the last time. However, the monarch only told her that she didn’t know what to do.

“So I went to the top lady [Queen Elizabeth II], sobbing,” Princess Diana said. “And I said ‘What do I do? I am coming to you, what do I do?’ And she said, ‘I don’t know what you should do.’ And that was it. And that was help.”

According to reports, the Queen was aware of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ affair and wasn’t okay with it. In fact, she disapproved of Camilla and once said that she didn’t want to see her in any royal function. Unfortunately, at the time, she didn’t really know how to fix their marital issues.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were separated for four years when one day she received a letter from the Queen advising them to divorce.

“I have consulted with the Archbishop of Canterbury and with the prime minister and, of course, with Charles, and we have decided that the best course for you is divorce,” the Queen’s letter read.

Princess Diana was reportedly angry because she was not given a chance to decide whether she wanted a divorce or not. Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce was finalized on Aug. 28, 1996.

Princess Diana blamed Camilla for her failed marriage. In her infamous Panorama interview, the People’s Princess said that “there were three of us in this marriage” implying about her and Prince Charles’ affair. However, royal author Penny Junor said that Princess Diana’s claims against the Duchess of Cornwall were false.

Meanwhile, Prince William and Prince Harry were affected by Prince Charles and Prince Diana’s split. One time, the Duke of Cambridge confronted his mom with an emotional and shocking question when he asked Princess Diana if Prince Charles never loved her.
