Queen Elizabeth II shocked royal fans during one of her royal tours when she was spotted wearing something out of the ordinary.

Kara Godfrey, a journalist for Express, revealed that when Her Majesty traveled to Canada in 1970, the monarch was photographed wearing trousers. The Queen and Prince Philip were joined by their children Prince Charles and Princess Anne on their 10-day royal tour.

The Queen’s matte silk trousers were designed by Thomas, a designer that received the Royal Warrant in 1973. Thomas dressed Her Majesty approximately 20 times until his death in 1993.

It is very rare for royal fans to see the Queen in her trousers when she is out in public. But this doesn’t mean she has never worn a similar attire since her trip to Canada. During a state visit in Zambia in 1979, she once again wore trousers while on a Safari tour with Prince Philip.

The Queen wore trousers once again in 2010 when she embarked on a private cruise holiday. In 2003, the Queen was also photographed in her grey trousers suit while leaving King Edward VII Hospital after her knee operation.

Designer Karl-Ludwig Rehse previously told Daily Mail how to dress the Queen during her state visits.

“Comfort is the main thing to take into account when designing for her. Then climate if she’s abroad,” he said.

In related news, the Queen also made headlines this week after her secret meetings with Princess Diana were revisited. In the documentary “Princes of the Palace,” royal correspondent Ingrid Seward revealed that Princess Diana would break down into tears while talking to Her Majesty.

“Nobody sees the Queen without an appointment, but Diana used to wait until the Queen’s last visitor – if you like – had left. Then she’d dash in before the next one and just cry. She’d say ‘everybody hates me, I hate my sister, I hate my mother, I hate my husband,’” Seward said (via Express).

But since the Queen was not used to having confrontations, she had no idea how to handle the late Princess of Wales during her most difficult times.
