Queen Elizabeth II has learned from Queen Victoria’s mistake from many years ago.

Matthew Kirkham, a journalist for Express, noted that Her Majesty and the late Queen Victoria are the two longest-serving monarchs in British history. Queen Victoria, who sat on the throne from 1837 to 1901 established several of the precedents that the current Queen has honored since she was crowned in 1952.

In the book “Charles, Prince of Wales,” author Anthony Holden said that the Queen was so concerned by Queen Victoria’s mistakes and how it could affect the upbringing of her four children, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.

Holden said that Her Majesty and Prince Philip were determined to make a bold departure from the patterns established by Queen Victoria. Prince Charles, for instance, was directed towards an education outside of the royal family’s home. He studied at a school mainly for boys, which is something that has not been done at that time.

“Queen Elizabeth II and her consort were above all concerned to learn from the mistakes made by Victoria and hers. Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s supreme good sense was to realize that a ‘contemporary constitutional monarch’ needs a good, all-around education much more than any form of special training,” Holden wrote.

And since the death of George IV, monarchs have reigned rather than ruled. The only requirement of a sovereign was to be treated with respect by the people. Any sovereign who has respectable character will be able to survive. And without respect, the monarchy could be in great danger.

“There isn’t any power. There can be an influence. The influence is in direct ration to the respect people have for you,” Prince Charles said.

And when he talked about his upbringing years ago, the future King said, “I’ve learned the way a monkey learns by watching his parents.”

Prince Philip also said in the past that training a royal isn’t necessary because just being with him and the Queen is already a good exposure in itself.

“They can’t avoid it. What’s much more difficult is bringing them up as people,” he said.
