KEY POINTS

  • Zack Snyder's cut of "Justice League" will give more exposure to Cyborg
  • Snyder even called Ray Fisher for a potential reshoot of some scenes
  • "Justice League: Snyder Cut” will debut in 2021 on HBO Max

Ray Fisher's Cyborg will have more exposure in Zack Snyder's “Justice League” cut.

The controversial “Snyder Cut” of “Justice League” is finally coming on HBO Max. Many felt Cyborg lacked exposure when “Justice League” was released. However, Cyborg actually played a bigger part in the original movie directed by Snyder but most of his scenes were scrapped by director Joss Whedon.

In fact, Snyder called Fisher for a potential comeback in case he needed to reshoot some scenes. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder shared that he had been reaching out to the cast of “Justice League” and the first person he called was Fisher who couldn’t believe his offer.

“He was like, ‘You’re kidding me, right?’” Snyder shared of Fisher’s reaction.

According to a report, Cyborg was supposed to be the most important character in the movie. In fact, Snyder developed a unique multi-camera rig to capture the character’s new origin scene, but apparently it was removed.

Cyborg’s plot would have shown him as a star football player with several scenes with his mom before a car crash kills the latter and severely injures the former. The storyline would have then moved on to show how the character discovers his power, seeks acceptance and embraces his role as a superhero.

However, the journey would not be easy for Fisher’s character because one of the major themes in his storyline is isolation from humanity. Fisher said that Snyder and Chris Terrio gave Cyborg a specific storyline intended to represent people with disabilities.

“I've had lots of fans who come out and say ‘Listen, I can relate to Cyborg because I lost a limb,’ or ‘I have this cochlear implant,’” Fisher told Geek Magazine about his role.

“It's one of those things when you actually start seeing it, when you actually start hearing about it, that made Cyborg more relevant to me than I think he ever had been up until that point.”

In the movie, Victor Stone a.k.a. Cyborg was depicted as someone who was not a social being and who felt uncomfortable going out in public that’s why he would only go out at night wearing a hoodie. Also, he was not comfortable with his own body and his relationship with the villain led to trust issues between him and the Justice League.

The Snyder Cut is going to feature a more detailed scene of Silas Stone dying and severing Victor of his remaining link to humanity. That’s why Cyborg’s plot in the movie was about unity and finding a new home with the Justice League. His new family anchored him to Earth and kept him from being drawn to the will of the Mother Boxes.

More importantly, Cyborg is going to be more significant because he is the only superhero who could defeat Steppenwolf and end Darkseid's plan. Also, as shown in the original movie, his capabilities proved helpful in resurrecting Superman.

“Justice League” may have missed to show Cyborg’s journey in finding his humanity and belonging with the League. But, fans can expect to see those and more in “Snyder’s Cut” on HBO Max.

Justice League: Snyder Cut” is set to debut in 2021.
