Real Reason Why Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt Wanted To Be 'Legally Single' Again

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are reportedly legally single again despite not having finalized their divorce.

Court documents obtained by The Blast revealed that a judge has ruled that Jolie and her estranged husband can go back to being legally single despite their ongoing divorce. This is a legal move called bifurcation, which ends the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" co-stars' marriage, but lets them continue negotiating the agreement for assets and the custody of their six children.

Sources close to Jolie and Pitt reportedly told the outlet that they negotiated for this judgment because the two wanted to "get on with their lives." Jolie and the actor apparently sought to emotionally break away from each other.

Jolie and Pitt reportedly just want to focus on their six children: Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 12, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 10. “Both parents are focused on what’s best for the kids,” a source told People.

Jolie and Pitt are also gearing up for the release of their respective movies this year. Pitt is set to star in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, while Jolie will be reprising her role as Maleficent in "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" this October.

Aside from motherhood and her film career, Jolie also hinted at a possible foray into politics into the future. The actress-director, who has years of experience in humanitarian work, was recently asked if she has considered running for office someday.

Jolie didn't discount the possibility of her joining politics, telling People magazine: "Never say never."

Jolie and Pitt began publicly dating after the release of their film, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," and after the latter's divorce from first ex-wife Jennifer Aniston. The former couple announced that they were expecting their first biological child together, Shiloh, in 2006.

The two tied the knot at their chateau in the south of France in 2014, but Jolie filed for divorce just two years later, citing irreconcilable differences.

Jolie and Pitt spent the following years negotiating their divorce and the custody of their children. The two finally reached a temporary agreement they were happy with in November last year, though its exact details are unknown.
