WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD! Do NOT continue reading unless you watched episode 17 of “Reign.”

The royal drama on “Reign” is completely insane! Season 1 of the hit new CW drama is winding down, but unfortunately for Queen Mary, things are just starting to heat up … and not in a good way.

Episode 17, titled “Liege Lord,” begins with the French castle in a heap of trouble. King Henry’s odd behavior became more apparent, and to top it off, Mary learns about a secret clause in her marriage contract. The clause basically makes Mary a moving target for France: It says that if she dies without an heir, Scotland will belong to France. Needless to say, she is not pleased about the news, and the situation is made worse when she finds out that her mother played a hand in creating it.

Mary takes matters into her own hands by enlisting the help of her countrymen to spread the word of her mother’s betrayal of Scotland. However, Queen Catherine puts the kibosh on Mary’s plan, using her men to kill all of Mary’s men before they leave the country. And despite being outwitted by Queen Catherine, Mary gets the last laugh when she forces her mother-in-law to burn the clause after threatening to reveal Henry’s illness to all of France.

So, what can “Reign” fans expect from episode 18, “No Exit”? A new face to the French castle!

According to a leaked synopsis of the upcoming episode, Mary will get a surprise visitor: her brother, James. Unfortunately for Mary, James isn’t in town to spend some quality time with his sister. Instead, he has come to beg her to return to Scotland. “Francis is suspicious and uncovers a plot that would destroy Mary,” the synopsis teased. However, Francis’ discovery doesn’t bring Mary and Francis closer. Instead, it causes a rift between the newlyweds.

Does James want Scotland’s throne for himself? Is he working with Marie de Guise to bring down Mary? Or is there another party who wants to take down the heir to Scotland’s throne? “Reign” viewers will have to wait to find out, but Scotland isn’t the only country in trouble. King Henry continues his “downward spiral,” and in a surprising move, he leaves Penelope in charge. His dangerous decision leads Catherine and Kenna to cast their differences aside and join together to take “drastic measures.”

As everything falls apart, “Reign” fans who thought they could find comfort in Lola’s perfect situation will likely be disappointed. Viewers may remember that in a previous episode, Lord Julien didn’t take back his marriage proposal after discovering that Lola was pregnant. Instead, he told her they should have the wedding before she starts to show. However, episode 18 will find Lola becoming “wary of Lord Julien’s motives behind his marriage proposal.”
