Capcom and the gaming community are mourning the death of “Resident Evil Village” actress Jeanette Maus, who passed away Sunday after battling colon cancer.

Maus, who plays several characters in the upcoming installment of the long-running survival horror franchise, was 39 years old when she passed away. Aside from colon cancer, she also had Crohn’s disease and contracted COVID-19 last year. All of these were confirmed by her fiancé, Dusty Warren, in a GoFundMe page and a Facebook post spotted by Deadline.

“It is with a shattered-yet grateful-heart that I inform you that Jeanette Maus passed away late last night due to complications of cancer,” Warren wrote on his Facebook post. “I’m really sad, but I’m super proud of her. She fought so hard, with tremendous grace and optimism, inspiring myself and I’m sure many of you.”

Capcom, the company behind “Resident Evil Village,” took to social media to mourn the passing of one of the key people behind the upcoming title.

“We here at Capcom R&D 1 are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Jeanette Maus, the talented actress who helped bring several different characters, including our witches to the world in Resident Evil Village. Our hearts go out to her family and loved ones,” Capcom wrote on Twitter.

Maus voiced one of the witch sisters that makes up the daughters of the House of Dimitrescu in “Resident Evil Village,” along with a few other characters. She could be seen in the trailer grinning at the main character after he gets caught. She can also be seen on the video's thumbnail.

Maus also worked as a faculty member at John Rosenfeld Studios, a studio that provides coaching and offers classes to individuals looking to improve and further their acting careers. John Rosenfeld expressed its sadness over the passing of one of their cherished faculty members via an Instagram post.

“Our hearts are broken today,” John Rosenfeld wrote. “Jeanette was truly an artist, and felt truly grateful to live as an artist. She had an indomitable spirit and was hungry to be the best person, the best teacher, the best friend and the best actor she could be. The world lost a force of nature and we will be feeling that for a long time.”

Warren set up a GoFundMe to raise funds for her treatment during her eight-month battle with cancer.
