As the world grapples with environmental challenges and seeks to revolutionize mobility, technological advancements such as the rise of electric vehicles (EVs) and autonomous vehicles (AVs) have emerged as the cornerstones of a cleaner, safer, and more efficient future on the roads.

However, alongside these advancements are possibilities of danger that, if left unaddressed, can cause devastating results. Automotive electrical engineering expert Venkata Kosuru aims to prevent such situations. As a safety systems engineer, his background and research experience contribute to the utmost safety and reliability of these vehicles for the public and passengers.

Kosuru is an electrical systems engineer specializing in the research, design, and development of electrical technologies for automotive applications with both bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical, electronics & computer engineering. He is revolutionizing the world of electric vehicles with his deep expertize in electric vehicle technology, autonomous driving controls, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

The challenges of the automotive industry

According to Kosuru, integrating electrical systems seamlessly into vehicles is a complex task that demands meticulous planning and execution. Failure to achieve seamless integration can lead to electrical malfunctions, system inefficiencies, and compromised safety. Though autonomous driving holds immense potential for enhancing road safety and convenience, ensuring functional safety is paramount.

The complex interplay of sensors, artificial intelligence algorithms, and control systems demands rigorous testing, validation, and fail-safe mechanisms. Failure to establish robust safety measures can lead to accidents, loss of public trust, and setbacks in adopting autonomous vehicles. "Automotive industry professionals must prioritize functional safety, continuously refine algorithms, and proactively address potential risks," Kosuru says. "These considerations prevent dangerous situations and ensure the utmost safety for passengers and pedestrians."

Championing a safer future through research-based initiatives

"The reliability and dependability of battery management systems (BMS)-based applications heavily rely on the integrity of the battery data obtained from sensors," Kosuru says. "Any inaccuracies in battery data can arise from various sources, including sensor faults, communication issues, or even cyber-attacks."

These inaccuracies can potentially cause serious harm to the BMS and can significantly impact the overall performance and safety of BMS-based applications, particularly electric vehicles. Diving deeper into this important area, Kosuru developed outstanding research titled "A Smart Battery Management System for Electric Vehicles Using Deep Learning-Based Sensor Fault Detection," where he, along with his other peers, proposes a system called "Incipient Bat-optimized Deep Residual Networks (IB-DRN)" for detecting and classifying false battery data, which aims to improve the safety and reliability of battery management systems.

Kosuru's research has successfully developed the IB-DRN system, which has achieved exceptional levels of accuracy (98%), precision (90%), recall (97%), and F1 score (94%). "These remarkable results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique, known as the incipient bat-optimized deep residual network," he says. In comparison to the currently employed methods, the IB-DRN system stands out as a superior solution.

Aside from research activities, Kosuru was also involved in creating patents and key research articles focused on technologies related to the electric vehicle autonomous driving industry. Some of these patents include "Redundant Power Bridge Battery Architecture", "Intelligent Sensor Technology for the Control System of Autonomous Vehicles", "An Energy Management System for Electric Vehicle Batteries" among many others.

A part of the industry trailblazers

As an electrical systems engineer, Kosuru recognizes the significance of their work for society as a whole. He believes that the pursuit of higher standards for automotive solutions is of paramount importance.

He adds, "I entered this field with a passion for both engineering and the automotive industry. Years have passed, and I am still driven by the potential impact that my work can have on improving the lives of individuals and society as a whole through automotive."

Kosuru aims to safeguard the well-being and peace of mind of passengers and the general public alike by meticulously designing and developing functional safety measures using cutting-edge technologies and continuous learning, and staying updated with advancements in the automotive field.

Kosuru shares, "Witnessing the rapid growth and adoption of electric and autonomous vehicles fuels my determination to push boundaries, innovate, and ensure that electrical engineering plays a crucial role in delivering cutting-edge technologies that prioritize safety and sustainability. I strive to shape a future where autonomous vehicles revolutionize mobility, leaving a lasting impact on individuals and society."

Kosuru actively contributes to developing and implementing cutting-edge technologies that elevate safety standards in electric and autonomous vehicles. Through his research, design, and development efforts, he looks forward to automotive solutions that will pave the way for better products that will drive the industry forward.
