Saturday, April 22, is the 23rd death anniversary of former President Richard Nixon. He died at the age of 81 after suffering a severe stroke at his New Jersey home.

In 1947, Nixon’s political career started after he was elected to the House of Representatives. He became the 37th president of the U.S. in 1969. During his term in the White House, Nixon ended American fighting in Vietnam and fortified ties with the U.S.S.R. and China.

However, Nixon’s was hit by the infamous Watergate scandal in the early 1970s due to which he had to step down. He remains the only president in the U.S. so far, to have done that.
