Foster Friess, the born-again Christian that funds Rick Santorum's Super PAC, left MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell speechless Thursday by joking about contraception (video below).

On Andrea Mitchell Reports, Friess sidestepped around questions about his candidate's stance on birth control, claiming that American culture is so preoccupied with sex.

On this contraceptive thing, my Gosh it such an inexpensive--You know, back in my day, they used Bayer aspirin for contraception. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn't that costly.

Mitchell then interrupted the businessman, not quite sure how to respond. Excuse me, I'm just trying to catch my breath from that, Mr. Friess, frankly, she said. Let's change the subject.

About a minute later, Mitchell returned to the topic. Aren't we going back decades with some of the social issues he's espoused?

I didn't realize [Santorum] said he was against contraceptives, said Friess. He eventually said Who cares? Do you honestly think that if Senator Santorum becomes president, we're going to get rid of contraceptives?

Santorum has said he personally shares the Catholic Church's position that contraception is wrong. He noted Wednesday on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight that he voted for contraception funding, but does not support President Barack Obama's proposed legislation that would require most religious institutions to provide birth control coverage in employees' health insurance policies.

Friess is the major financier behind the Red, White and Blue Fund, which has raised about $1.5 million for Rick Santorum since the election cycle began.
