  • Robert Pattinson was slammed for not working out during the pandemic after "The Batman" production was halted

Robert Pattinson will return to filming his superhero movie "The Batman" next month after the production was forced to halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The comic book adventure was already on its seventh week of production when filming was stopped due to the global health crisis. However, Pattinson and the rest of the cast will resume production in September, insiders told Variety.

Pattinson's version is said to be grittier and a more realistic version of the Knight Crusader movies. They still have approximately three months of material left to shoot, so it might take until the end of the year to wrap up.

The crew members were already spotted constructing sets for the movie this month sparking rumors that filming would resume shortly. But since things remain uncertain due to the pandemic, it could take several more weeks or months for the cameras to roll, the outlet noted.

In an interview with GQ in May, Pattinson said he was stuck in London with his girlfriend Suki Waterhouse when filming for his movie was halted. He admitted at the time that he stopped working out.

"I think if you’re working out all the time, you’re part of the problem," Pattinson said.

"You set a precedent. No one was doing this in the ’70s. Even James Dean—he wasn’t exactly ripped."

Pattinson called his "The Batman" co-star Zoë Kravitz the day before the interview and she told him that she was exercising five days a week after they stopped filming.

"Literally, I’m just barely doing anything," Pattinson said before sighing.

The "Twilight" star's statement irked the netizens who expected him to exercise for the movie. Pattinson received intense backlash on Twitter, with some calling him lazy for not preparing physically for his superhero role.

“I hope this is a joke. I get that not everyone is peak physical levels but Batman is supposed to be. He’s supposed to be super strong and able to beat the [expletive] out of people because he incessantly works out. Working out and money are his only 2 superpowers,” @BoofieBois wrote.

“If this is true I’m not thrilled to hear it, Batman is the epitome of peak physical fitness so anyone who has the role needs to respect that. You know what you’re getting yourself into when you go for the part of Batman,” @VillainsOfDC_ opined.

However, some also defended the actor because they believed that he was just trolling them. One even said that Pattinson had been spotted working out at the time.
